不美好青春

Going through Roger Ebert

  • what made me think is that he said a film made for everybody is a film made for nobody in the review of Spirited away, because Miyazaki said the film is made for 10-year-old girls.
  • Miyazaki says he made the film specifically for 10-year-old girls. That is why it plays so powerfully for adult viewers. Movies made for “everybody” are actually made for nobody in particular. Movies about specific characters in a detailed world are spellbinding because they make no attempt to cater to us; they are defiantly, triumphantly, themselves. As I watched the film again, I was spellbound as much as by any film I consider great. ”
  • Today evening I was thinking about the thing about art; that should art be specific to the professionals or to be specific to every audience.
  • I do not agree that art is to be specific; what’s the point to make a piece just for the professionals to see/ just for the ppl who knew nth of art? For me the definition of good art is it caters everyone’s tastes; like how Ang Lee’s Life of Pi allows both audience and professionals to find it good. Good Art could not be limited, because what is limited is not good art.
  • But to aimed to do art that everyone would agree is good= making no art because there is not/ will not be any absolute verification for  what ppl to agree beautiful is. Art is something that offers no specific answers, because fundamentally it is not maths and equation.
  • SO here is the conflict- what am I to do? good art should not be limited to a specific audience but at the same time it can never be not limited because art essentially is something relative/ about perspective.
  • What Roger Ebert’s words offers me is that maybe making great art is about making art specific audience- because if I aim to make art for everybody….I lose every aspect of being me to cater other’s preference, and that will not be a good sign because the piece of art will be crappy; It is not me and will not be capable of expressing anything.
  • Maybe great art can be fundamentally about expressing myself; because becoming myself doesn’t mean I am losing every aspect of being universal. Eventually expressing myself (to be specific) is an act of to be universal because I am part of the universal??
  • I am more confused after thinking this lot. I will come back to this

art spirited away

「要自己去衝撞過、經歷過,我才能知道這條路是不是危險,我覺得年輕的時候去闖盪,就算一直跌倒,都能繼續站起來,通常在最顛簸的路上,才有智慧、經驗、自省能力,那會讓自己更豐富。」

大三參與淡大與法國里昂大學交換學生,是她更巨大的自我追逐。

那時,她每天跟里昂大學學生上課,看到學生們那種真心喜歡、渴望學習,不為應付考試;而家長給子女空間,長成自己要的樣子。

在里昂她生過病,獨自上藥房買糖漿;她一個人玩歐洲;而那一年,她拒絕父母飛來探視。

文化是一面鏡子,徹底映照出她想追求的價值,她要活出獨特、活出存在的意義。

在歐洲那段期間,她也看到東西方學生學習的差別,西方主動求知,而東方是被填塞地被動學習。

她觀察到很多台灣同學到大四還不知道自己為何念法文系,只因為考上,也不一定有興趣。

這開啟她對學習的想像。她更加珍惜學習機會,並為此負責。

不喜歡的課她索性不去了,而是專注在文史哲學,即使那堂課只有五位學生,只要喜歡就專注學。

她的大腦愈來愈相信「愈幸福的路,其實愈難走。」她認為,努力每個當下,才有果實可收,也才能證明自己的存在。

但對她而言,每個人都很獨特,「大家都是一樣活在這世界上,只是工作不一樣而已,」她淡淡地說。

"探索能力其實是你可以為自己做的第一件事, 也是做得最好的事, 但也是唯一你能為自己做的事情…

你要去想,你認為做什麽事情是你最有創意的,你最懂得為它想方法的, 你就去做它. 那麼在這條路上面, 你就會不斷地得到更多的機會去磨練這個已經有的優點.

當你不再羡慕別人的時候, 那個時候最好就是, 你早就已經是因為你有想做的事情了. 不然你永遠都不會脫離那個失落. 可是這份失落基本上就是完全阻絕你主動去感受這個世界的唯一的障礙- 就是你花太多時間失落了.”

年輕人不要聽旁邊的人說,現在這個年代哪個行業熱門、哪個行業最能溫飽,就一窩蜂去做。要去想想,你做什麼事情最有創意?你最能為哪件事情投入熱情?

最怕的是,你沒有花心力去打磨想做的事情,它永遠只是半成品。一直困在別人口中的:「你好像不錯」、「你好像有潛力」,但始終沒看到這份潛力變成真實。

但累積到某一程度,發現這世界上沒有乖或不乖、對或不對,只有願不願意坦承接受「我就是這樣的人」。

我學習坦然接受自己——永遠看起來沒有擔當,不懂得一板一眼做事。然後,接受困擾我許久的跳躍式思考,把這個特質變成觀察生活的資本。然後,花時間心力打磨它,變成在社會中求生的工具。

——

教育總是給我們一個標準答案。因為這個人做了什麼事,最後導致什麼結果,然後給予一個評價:好人或壞人。

教育能不能是問號,而不是句號?可不可以問問年輕人,「什麼天氣對你來說是好的?」而不是告訴他,「這是好天氣。」他們可以自己判斷,自己學習。

所以年輕人不需要典範,要拿典範做什麼?年輕時,我受黃春明影響很大,但是我沒有要過他一張簽名,或去聽一場座談會。他對我的意義是,透過知道他如何思考,我是不是也可以活得跟他一樣自在。

當不再羨慕別人的時候,就是有自己想做的事情了,不然永遠無法脫離羨慕別人。很多年輕人,花太多時間失落了。失落感,會成為認識這個世界的阻礙。

不要那麼快認定這世界只會這樣想、那樣想,世界還有其它可能性。必須去做看看,去思考、去實踐,才能成為你自己。
